EHR migration is a complex and labor-intensive undertaking, and many hospitals and health systems don’t have the resources in-house to adequately cover all parts of the process. Minimizing downtime and disruptions during the transition is crucial to patient safety and clinician satisfaction. Hiring experienced health IT talent to fill the gaps, maintain productivity, and address challenges can help drive an effective business continuity plan.
West Tennessee Healthcare in Jackson, Tennessee, has expanded its strategic partnership with Nordic to include critical support for its current IT portfolio as it transitions to a new EHR platform. The regional organization, which serves half a million people, is moving to Epic after two decades on the Cerner (now Oracle Health) system. The implementation began July 13, 2023, with the go-live slated for October 2024.
Throughout the 15-month project, Nordic will support 21 applications — spanning Oracle Health, Epic, and third-party programs — that enable vital functions including inpatient clinical workflows, billing, registration, scheduling, and patient accounting. Consultants will also supply reporting and oversee an Oracle Health update that’s needed for regulatory compliance.
Nordic resourced and selected consultants to make up about 20% of West Tennessee Healthcare’s IT analyst staff, bringing deep clinical experience and extensive technical knowledge to the team. As the industry leader in implementing Oracle Health, Epic, and MEDITECH, the global firm is uniquely positioned to coordinate West Tennessee Healthcare’s diverse IT activity.
“We've worked with Nordic consultants since 2021 and have been consistently impressed by their depth of experience and professionalism. These talented individuals quickly blended into the West Tennessee culture with a willingness to jump in and help whenever needed,” says Clayton Phillips, vice president and CIO, West Tennessee Healthcare. “As we focus on this major strategic initiative of migrating to a new EHR, Nordic is the obvious choice to be our trusted partner in managing our current IT environment and ensuring a reliable, high-quality patient experience.”
