Piedmont came to Nordic looking to meet the needs of the Piedmont Clinic, a clinically integrated network of physicians. At the time, Piedmont was struggling to provide the metrics to meet regulatory requirements around an accountable care organization (ACO), and additional metrics were needed to support electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQM) and the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS).
Nordic's team deployed an agile methodology for implementing quality measures: a single design and investigation, followed by a series of "sprints" to assess, build, and validate quality measures in rapid succession. Over eight weeks, the team assessed and built seven PQRS measures and evaluated eight additional measures. They also developed SmartForm scripting to capture information in clinical workflows and ease the documentation burden for clinicians.
Throughout the engagement, Nordic worked closely with Piedmont stakeholders to establish structured build guidelines and a style guide for quality measures. The optimization also transitioned quality measures to My Panel Metrics and leveraged external data from claims and partnering organizations to improve performance.
