Fifteen years ago, Nordic embarked on a journey to enhance healthcare through the power of technology. As a strategic partner now serving more than 700 organizations worldwide, we’ve developed an eye for innovation and a passion for industry collaboration. As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, we’re reflecting on how our growth has mirrored the evolution of the healthcare industry, with each milestone shaping—and being shaped by—the market we serve. Our journey unfolds across three key phases of healthcare modernization, each building on the progress of the last, driving transformation along the way.
Foundations of digitization and EHR adoption, 2009-2015
The healthcare industry underwent massive digital transformation driven by the U.S. HITECH Act in 2009, which incentivized hospitals to adopt electronic health records (EHRs). This sparked a rapid effort to digitize paper records and led to the introduction of Meaningful Use (MU) stages, requiring providers to electronically document patient data, share information, and engage patients through portals. Large EHR vendors like Epic, Cerner (now Oracle Health), and MEDITECH dominated the market, with hospitals racing to meet compliance deadlines. However, as basic EHR adoption in the U.S. grew to 84% by 2015, providers struggled with workflow inefficiencies, usability challenges, and clinician burnout, as many systems were designed more for billing than clinical effectiveness.
Meeting the market: Nordic as frontier firm in Epic expertise
Recognizing the urgent need for expert EHR implementation and optimization, Nordic was founded in 2010 and partnered with Epic, positioning as a trusted advisor for health systems navigating implementations. With a focus on maximizing EHR investments, streamlining workflows, and enhancing clinician adoption, Nordic quickly gained recognition, winning the Best in KLAS for Epic Implementation Services — twice during this period. As demand for strategic EHR guidance surged, Nordic expanded rapidly, surpassing 100 clients by 2014. This early success not only established Nordic as an industry leader but also prepared the organization for the next wave of healthcare transformation.
The shift to data sharing and new care models, 2016-2020
From 2016 to 2020, healthcare moved beyond just using EHRs to focus on sharing data and improving patient care. The U.S. 21st Century Cures Act (2016) required better access to patient records and encouraged new ways and standards for systems to share information, like FHIR. Interoperability programs like CommonWell and Carequality helped doctors see patient records across different hospitals. At the same time, new payment rules rewarded providers for quality care instead of the number of visits, leading to more use of data tools. By 2020, these changes had set the stage for smarter, more connected healthcare, a shift that gained speed even more during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meeting the market: Nordic diversifies talent and offerings
As healthcare organizations embraced these changes, Nordic was positioned as a leader in interoperability, helping healthcare organizations seamlessly exchange patient data and improve care coordination across different systems. Celebrating our 200th client in 2017, our commitment to enabling patient-centered care ensured that providers could leverage real-time, accurate information and execute value-based care models. We also expanded our offerings, launching Advisory Services and an ERP practice in 2018. In 2019, the launch of our Cerner practice, now Oracle Health, as well as our entry into the Canadian market, marked significant milestones in our growth, providing clients with an ever-growing and diverse knowledge base. Nordic’s success was also driven by our award-winning workplace culture, consistently recognized with Best Place to Work honors. By 2020, with a Best in KLAS 90+ rating across seven KLAS categories and market entry beyond North America, Nordic was firmly established as a trusted leader in healthcare IT, driving the future of patient care and improving experiences for both patients and providers.
Digital health and AI-driven transformation, 2021 to present
The COVID-19 pandemic and its post-pandemic impact accelerated digital transformation in healthcare, driving widespread adoption of telehealth and virtual care solutions to make digital-first healthcare a priority. As healthcare systems have adapted to new challenges, digital health investments have prioritized full-scale enterprise transformation when used with cloud technology to scale solutions quickly. Automation and advanced analytics are increasingly used to improve both operational and clinical processes, and an increasing number of physicians see the value of AI if it is implemented with trustworthy guardrails. In 2025, healthcare leaders strive to fully modernize their healthcare enterprise, providing more personalized, efficient, and connected experiences.
Meeting the market: Nordic as strategic end-to-end IT partner
Nordic’s end-to-end offerings mirror the strategy and philosophy of hospital and health system leaders: modernization should be all-encompassing and a necessary goal in the transformation journey. Beyond individual solutions, Nordic offers a full suite of modernization services, extending from EHR implementation and usability to patient-centered experience, clinical optimization, managed services, AI and analytics, cybersecurity, financial sustainability, and more. In 2022, we became a key industry partner for our cloud expertise through both AWS and Microsoft partnerships. Nordic is now an AWS Select Consulting Partner, an AWS Public Sector Partner, and a member of the Microsoft Cloud Partner Program. To further build and share expertise, launched a Cloud Innovation Lab in collaboration with both Microsoft and AWS to accelerate industry innovation. In 2022 and 2023, we won Best in KLAS for Overall IT Services. We were also named Top Performer in the Inaugural KLAS Canada EMR Consulting Services in 2023. In 2025, we have a dedicated and growing international market footprint, specializing in understanding the global impact on the local needs of providers and patients.
