Optimizing Epic performance while preserving valued roles

Catholic Health today announced a new strategic partnership with Nordic, a global health and technology consulting company, to provide application managed services for its Epic electronic health record (EHR) platform. The collaboration is designed to enhance operational excellence, preserve jobs in Western New York, and ensure continued high-quality service for patients, residents, providers, and associates. The partnership reflects Catholic Health’s proactive approach to navigating the financial and operational pressures facing healthcare systems nationwide. By pursuing innovative solutions that strengthen support functions, Catholic Health’s executive leadership sought to maintain exceptional service while creating expanded opportunities for its workforce.

Approximately 90 frontline associates currently support Epic across the system. Under the new model, all team members will retain roles within the updated structure—either remaining with Catholic Health or transitioning to Nordic—with no job losses as a result of the partnership. Importantly, Catholic Health’s IT leadership team will remain unchanged.

“Our priority has always been to provide exceptional care to our patients and outstanding service to the associates who support them,” said Dr. Michael Galang, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Technology Officer for Catholic Health. “This partnership allows us to sustain the high standards our patients expect while preserving meaningful careers here in Western New York. By aligning with a trusted, mission driven organization, we are not only strengthening our Epic support model but also creating new pathways for professional growth and advancement for our team.”

Nordic is a globally recognized healthcare IT consulting firm specializing in end-to-end technology consulting for advisory, implementation, optimization, and managed services initiatives that help health systems improve performance and deliver better care. The organization is owned by Bon Secours Mercy Health, one of the nation’s largest Catholic, not-for-profit health systems. The Cincinnati-based health system’s shared mission-driven focus and commitment to high-quality, compassionate care were key considerations in Catholic Health’s decision-making process.

“Cultural alignment was essential in selecting a partner,” Dr. Galang added. “Nordic’s connection to Bon Secours Mercy Health and its longstanding commitment to Catholic healthcare values make this collaboration a natural fit for our organization and our community.”

“We’re proud to partner with Catholic Health to advance a thoughtful, future-ready approach to supporting their Epic platform,” said Steve Eckert, chief growth officer, Nordic. “This collaboration brings together shared values, practical expertise, and a commitment to doing right for the community. Taking on the operational complexity of Epic support, we’re helping Catholic Health focus its time and resources on what comes next for  patients, clinicians, and the organization.”

Through this partnership, associates who transition to Nordic will benefit from enhanced career development opportunities, including expanded professional pathways and remote work arrangements, while continuing to serve the Catholic Health system and its patients.

The application managed services partnership is expected to officially begin June 1, 2026.
