Insights from Nordic’s Chief Medical Officer

Making healthtech work better for humans

Dr. Craig Joseph, MD, FAAP, FAMIA, brings a clinician’s perspective and decades of health IT experience to one of healthcare’s biggest questions: how do we design systems that better support the people who give and receive care?

Through Nordic’s Designing for Health platform, Dr. Joseph explores practical ways to reduce friction, improve workflows, strengthen technology adoption, and create better experiences for patients and clinicians.

Craig Joseph, MD, FAAP, FAMIA

Chief Medical Officer, Nordic

Dr. Craig Joseph serves as Chief Medical Officer at Nordic, where he helps connect clinical insight, technology, and human-centered design to the work healthcare organizations do every day. A pediatrician, physician informaticist, former Epic leader, and CMIO, Dr. Joseph brings more than 30 years of experience across clinical care, health IT, and healthcare transformation.

His work focuses on a simple but powerful idea: healthcare should be designed around the humans inside it. That means looking beyond technology alone and asking how systems, workflows, decisions, and experiences can better support clinicians, patients, staff, and leaders.

As co-author of Designing for Health: The Human-Centered Approach, Dr. Joseph brings Nordic’s point of view into a broader industry conversation about what it takes to make care work better. His perspective reflects the same approach Nordic brings to client work: understand the people, simplify the complexity, and design solutions that create meaningful change.

Dr. Joseph is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Informatics Association and remains board-certified in pediatrics and clinical informatics.

From insight to action.

Craig-HIMSS26

Craig’s perspective is more than thought leadership. It reflects how Nordic approaches healthcare transformation: start with the people experiencing the problem, understand how care actually happens, and design systems that make it easier to do the right thing.

From advisory and implementation to optimization, change management, and ongoing support, Nordic helps healthcare organizations bring these ideas to life in the real world.

The book behind Nordic’s human-centered approach

Designing for Health Book

Designing for Health is not just a book about healthcare. It is a practical framework for understanding why so many systems create friction for patients, clinicians, and staff, and what healthcare organizations can do differently.

Drawing from decades of clinical and health IT experience, Dr. Joseph explores how intentional design can improve workflows, simplify complexity, support technology adoption, and create more human-centered experiences. The ideas in the book reflect the same approach Nordic brings to healthcare transformation every day: design around real people, solve for real-world needs, and make care work better for everyone involved.

From EHR optimization and digital transformation to workflow redesign and change management, Designing for Health offers a practical lens for turning strategy into action and helping healthcare work better for humans.

“An informative and accessible guide with practical tools for applying human-centered design in healthcare.”
